The surface of all plant parts can be slightly hairy to tomentose, the trichomes are simple, multicellular hairs with glandular or nichtdrüsigen heads. The stems become woody at the base not, are not or only slightly angular, often blackish crowded.
The striking dark green leaves are 2.5 to 7.0 cm long and 2.0 to 4.5 cm – rarely to 6.0 cm – wide. They are ovate, ovate-lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate or rhombic shape, leaf margin is entire, toothed swinging up. They stand at 2-5 cm long, turning round petioles.
The roots have vascular bundles oligarch with small-lumen vessels. The endodermis is not clearly differentiated.

Inflorescences and flowers
The heyday of the black night shadow extends from June to October. The inflorescences are sitting in the axils of the middle to upper leaves. They are simple and loose, often elongated cymes usually from five to ten, rarely only three flowers. The Blütenstandstiele have a length of 14-28 cm, rarely do they even have a length of 8 mm. The flower stalks are much shorter and bend back during training of the fruit. The bell-shaped calyx is 1.2 to 2.5 mm long and consists of mostly egg-shaped petals. During fruit ripening it increased slightly, turn back there or is present at the fruit. The star-shaped corolla consists of five white petals, which are at the base, up to half their length, grown together and are translucent flower center. The crown has a diameter of 5-7 mm, which can be extreme 4-9 mm. It has the 1.5 to 3 times the length of the calyx. The five fixed at the crown base stamens are yellow, 1.5 to 2.5 mm, rarely to 2.8 mm long also. The converging arranged dust bags are covered with dense hair and open up full of holes, accompanied by a gap along the longitudinal axis. The pollen grains have a size of about 29.5 to 33.9 microns in diameter. The style is about 2.8 to 3.5 mm or rarely up to 4.5 mm long and is not beyond the stamens. Typical of the black night shadow pollinators are hoverflies (Syrphidae), bees (Apis) and bumblebees (Bombus).

Fruits and seeds
The fruits are 6-10 mm wide, broadly ovate berries with two chambers and a succulent pericarp without stone cells, the color on matt purple, black and yellowish-green varied. Each berry usually contains 26-60 seed, but extreme values are between 15 and 96 The flattened seeds are 1.7 to 2.4 mm long.
